Isoray - Innovative Brachytherapy

Once a cancer survivor, now a pioneer in brachytherapy and radiation oncology

In 1997 Dr. Brian Moran helped found the Chicago Prostate Cancer Center. A graduate of the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, he is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology and the Medical Director of the Chicago Prostate Center.

He is also a pioneer in brachytherapy for prostate cancer treatment. He believes patients should always be made aware of all of their prostate cancer treatment options based not only on his experience and expertise, but the most current, scientific research data available.

How did Dr. Moran end up a radiation oncologist and a pioneer in brachytherapy? It all starts with his own story as a cancer survivor.

“Quality of life has really come to the forefront, which it should,” Dr. Moran says. “Today, we are able to select patients for appropriate therapy always keeping in mind quality of life [post treatment] is paramount. If you don’t maintain it, some men can go into depression and snowball into multi-factorial healthcare conditions.”

Brachytherapy, including Cesium-131, has demonstrated both comparable and superior outcomes for a variety of prostate cancer conditions compared to other options. We urge men with rising PSA levels or prostate cancer to ensure they make themselves aware of all of their treatment options and quality of life implications including brachytherapy.
